Board Issues Cease and Desist Order

The Construction Industry Panel of the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board announced today that it has taken action to end an illegal work stoppage which began on Oct. 25, 1999, involving employees of Doug Burns Excavation Contracting Ltd. in Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

The complaint was filed on Nov. 3, 1999, requesting the panel to issue a cease and desist order against certain employees of Doug Burns Excavation Contracting Ltd., who are members of the Labourers' International Union of North America, Local 1115, and International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 721.

An interim order has been issued by the panel directing all employees of Doug Burns Excavation Contracting Ltd. who are participating in the illegal work stoppage to cease and desist and to return to work at their next regularly scheduled shift and perform their lawful duties as assigned by the employer.
