The late Thomas Cumming (T.C.) MacConnell is the 1999 Nova Scotia inductee into the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame, Ernest Fage, Minister of Agriculture and Marketing, announced today.
The induction ceremonies will take place at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m.
"It is through the hard work of people like T.C. MacConnell that Nova Scotia can claim one of the greatest agriculture industries in the world," said Mr. Fage. "He is a man who began as a butter maker and worked his way into being one of the most respected figures in the entire industry. Agriculture in Nova Scotia is much better today because of T.C. MacConnell."
Mr. MacConnell, of Meadowville, Pictou Co., was nominated for the Hall of Fame by Scotsburn Credit Union for his many contributions to the industry, his community and the province.
His career spanned 44 years with Scotsburn Co-operative Services Ltd. Mr. MacConnell began as a butter maker in 1927 and retired as CEO in 1971. A great supporter of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture and the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Marketing, Mr. MacConnell often lent his support in the development of government policies for the agriculture industry.
In recognition of his work on behalf of the industry and its producers, Mr. MacConnell was appointed a member of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture Senate Club, an honour usually reserved for past-presidents of the federation.
The Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame honours members of the agricultural community for outstanding contributions to the industry, community and farm organizations.
