Members Elect Murray Scott as Speaker
Members of the Legislative Assembly today elected Murray Scott as Speaker of the House.
"To be elected by my legislative peers for this most important of roles is indeed an honour," said Mr. Scott following his election during a special legislative session held by all-party agreement.
"Today, I make a commitment to my colleagues and all Nova Scotians that all viewpoints will have an opportunity for a hearing in the House, that impartiality and fairness will be, as always, hallmarks of the Office of the Speaker."
Mr. Scott, a former police officer in Moncton and Springhill, was first elected to represent the people of Cumberland South in March 1998. He is the married father of two children.
