Tests Around Tire Site Show No Contamination

Department of the Environment testing of air, soil and drinking water on properties surrounding the site of Nova Tire Recyclers has shown no contamination from a recent fire that would harm the environment or human health. Environment officials made results available to residents last week.

A further review of the data by the area's medical officer of health, Dr. Richard Gould, confirms there is no health risk.

This information is to reassure people in the area they can resume eating fruit and vegetables from their gardens without concern. It is a good idea, as always, to wash any produce before it is consumed.

On-site remediation is under way. A cleanup plan has been accepted and is being monitored by the Department of the Environment.
