Celebrating Nova Scotia's Quality Foods

Nova Scotians are responding to one of the "tastiest" promotions to head their way this summer: the Taste of Nova Scotia Quality Food Program's Celebrate Summer With Taste barbecue and food basket giveaway, and barbecues across the province.

"Nova Scotia produces some of the best foods and beverages in the world," said Dana MacGillvray, manager of the Taste of Nova Scotia Quality Food Program. "The Taste of Nova Scotia Quality Food Program further sets apart those farmers and processors who want consumers to know that quality is built into every part of their production process.

"This promotion is to introduce the program to Nova Scotians and get some of our members' products into the hands of people so they can enjoy some really terrific homegrown, quality products."

The Taste of Nova Scotia Quality Food Program is an association of farmers and processors that focuses on upholding quality assurance standards and joint marketing initiatives. The program was launched in 1994 as a co-operative venture between Nova Scotia's food industry and the provincial government. It currently has 29 members ranging in size from Oland Breweries in Halifax to the Appleton Chocolate Co. in Wentworth.

An overview of the program, its members and the contest ballot was served up to the public as a colour insert in the Halifax Chronicle-Herald late last month. To date, 7,500 entries have been received. Three early-bird draws were held July 16. The winners were: Leonard Gerrior of West Arichat ($250 food basket); Luella Lively of Halifax (Taste of Nova Scotia sweatshirt); and Pam Hodgson of Dartmouth (Taste of Nova Scotia golf shirt).

Throughout the summer, barbecues using member products will be held across the province. Dates, times and locations will be placed in provincial and community newspapers.

The contest closes Aug. 27. To get more information about the program, enter the contest or obtain a barbecue schedule, please call 1-800-281-5507 or visit the Taste of Nova Scotia Quality Food Program website at www.tasteofnovascotia.com .
