Toll-Free Feed Line Reactivated

For the third consecutive year, the Department of Agriculture and Marketing has established the Nova Scotia Feed Listing Service to help livestock farmers dealing with feed shortages as a result of prolonged dry weather.

This year, the service has been expanded to include land available for pasturing livestock.

"Farmers are once again feeling the impact of our dry summers on their feed reserves," said Ed Lorraine, Minister of Agriculture and Marketing. "The feed line was successful for the past two summers, and we wanted to be able to provide the same service to those producers in need this year."

A toll-free line -- 1-888-423-1222 -- ensures the service is accessible from anywhere in the province. By calling the line, producers can list livestock feed for sale, make inquiries as to what is listed for sale, and this year, list land available for pasturing livestock.

Information and listings are regularly posted on the department website at http://agri.gov.ns.ca/pt/agron/hay/index.htm .

The listing service and toll-free line is operated from the department's Production Technology Branch. The service is open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding noon to 1 p.m.
