Events Plaza at Queen's Landing

Rejuvenation of the former Department of Fisheries and Oceans and RCMP properties on Lower Water Street in Halifax is now being completed, the Waterfront Development Corp. Ltd. has announced.

During the interim development phase, an events plaza and expanded public parking are being provided. Important features of the site include a promenade along the north side of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, a new location for vendors, restoration of the view corridor from the water's edge to Citadel Hill, and a pay-and-display system providing more convenient parking for visitors to the waterfront and to the area's shops and other businesses.

The site complements the refurbishing of the Queen's Wharves, completed in 1995, which maintained Halifax's historic finger piers. The improvements will benefit the city as it celebrates its 250th birthday, the approaching millennium and next July's Tall Ships 2000 event.
