Mentorship Partnership With UCCB
The Department of the Environment and the University College of Cape Breton have signed a memorandum of understanding confirming details of a mentorship program.
The program provides an opportunity for two students enrolled in the environmental health program at UCCB to gain practical experience with the provincial department. It is an extension of an existing agreement that led to the development of a bachelor degree program in environmental health.
"This is a partnership that works for the student, the university and the department," said Environment Minister Michel Samson. "We want to be assured there are qualified candidates out there when we're looking to fill positions, and of course, students are hoping their education is an investment that will bring them future employment."
As part of the agreement, the university will waive tuition for two students in the environmental health program during the next school year. The department will provide these students with a four-month work term starting in August of the year following their selection.
"This partnership gives young Nova Scotians greater opportunities for meaningful employment in their home province," said Mr. Samson. "In addition, it fosters an interest in maintaining our environment."
