Tourism Council Seeks Input on 2000

With Nova Scotia's peak tourism season barely under way, industry and government partners are working already on plans for next year.

To gather industry input, members of the Nova Scotia Tourism Partnership Council are holding a workshop on Tuesday, June 29, in Baddeck. The workshop will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Inverary Inn. The session will include an overview of 1999 marketing plans as well as the outlook for 2000.

Those people interested in attending the workshop can register by telephoning the council at 902-424-0048.

The Nova Scotia Tourism Partnership Council is an industry-government team that leads provincial marketing and product development initiatives.

The council's 1999 plan is aiming for five per cent growth over last year's record-breaking $1.1 billion tourism performance. More than half of this revenue comes from outside the province, making tourism a significant export industry. In all, tourism supports jobs for some 33,800 Nova Scotians with a payroll of about $430 million dollars. Last year's revenues generated $105 million in provincial and municipal taxes.
