Stewiacke to Receive Sewage Station

Funding will be provided to the town of Stewiacke under the Provincial Capital Assistance Program to replace the Kitchener Street Sewage Lift Station, Ray White, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs, announced today.

"This is an urgent project with the potential to greatly impact local residents and businesses," said Mr. White. "I am pleased that we are able to help the town replace the sewage lift station, eliminating threats of sewage overflows to area residents."

The current sewage lift station is undersized and ineffective. Nearby residents are threatened by sewage backups, and there is a constant potential for overflow from the station into the town's water supply. The minister said it is essential that this existing sewage lift station be replaced.

The total replacement will cost $160,000. The province will contribute 50 per cent, or $80,000, of the costs.
