Pollution Project Reaches New Phase
Funding will be provided to the Lunenburg Harbour Sewage Interception Project under the Provincial Capital Assistance Program, Ray White, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs, announced today.
"This is an essential project with the potential to affect local residents, businesses and even tourists to the town," said Mr. White. "I am pleased that we are able to contribute to Lunenburg's fight to reduce pollution."
Sewer interceptors will be constructed in Lunenburg on Tannery Road from Knickle Road to Mason's Road. They will also be constructed along Brook, Falkland and Young streets. These interceptors are the most recent phase of the town's pollution abatement project, and will eliminate 24 private and two municipal outfalls. In addition, they will redirect the flow to the Brook Street outfall.
The province will underwrite 50 per cent of the project cost, up to $275,000.
