Pictou Receives Composting Facility

Funding will be provided to Pictou County under the Provincial Capital Assistance Program to construct a state-of-the-art composting facility, Ray White, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs, announced today.

"This is a very important project that will provide the residents of Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough municipalities with an effective composting system," said Mr. White. "The composting facility will also enable the municipal units to easily achieve provincially mandated waste regulations."

The facility will be constructed at the Mount William landfill site in Pictou County. Six municipal units in Pictou County as well as the six units in the counties of Antigonish and Guysborough will use the facility to dispose of organic waste. The composting facility will be operated by the Pictou County District Planning Commission.

The province's contribution of $130,000 toward the project will help to reduce municipal capital borrowing requirements, said Mr. White
