Deadline to Apply for Conservation Corps Extended
The Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps has extended its deadline for applications to work on environmental projects throughout the province this summer.
The new deadline is Wednesday, June 2, for jobs available from June 28 to Aug. 27. It was previously Friday, May 28.
More than 150 young men and women will be hired to work as part of a crew within their own communities on such projects as watershed management, waste diversion, eco-tourism development, pollution prevention, climate change, environmental education, and promoting public awareness about the environment.
The province is contributing about $300,000 to the 1999 program, with community and other government partners providing additional funding. Now in its 10th year, the program requires communities to submit proposals for environmental projects to be carried out by youth crews.
Application details are available provincewide at Access Nova Scotia centres, Human Resources Development Canada employment centres, university and community college employment centres, and the Youth Conservation Corps website, www.gov.ns.ca/envi/dept/ess/ycc/ . Interested applicants can also call 902-424-0278 or 424-2569 for more information.
