Scholarship Available
A student who demonstrates exceptional entrepreneurial spirit can now win a $4,000 scholarship to Saint Mary's University without having the highest marks in the class.
Saint Mary's University, in co-operation with Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Development and Nova Scotia's Department of Economic Development and Tourism, has launched its first annual entrepreneurial scholarship competition.
To be considered, Grade 11 and 12 high school students must submit a report describing an entrepreneurial experience and how it benefited them, or students can submit a report describing a business idea, how to implement it and why it can be successful. Students are encouraged to be creative.
The competition is designed to encourage entrepreneurial activity. An entrepreneur possesses skills and behaviours such as the following: creativity; initiative; leadership ability; innovation; and the ability to motivate others. A positive attitude, ambition and drive creates an entrepreneur. This competition will award a student who best illustrates these attitudes and behaviours. Course grades hold some weight but only with respect to obtaining grades for acceptance to Saint Mary's University.
Saint Mary's University prides itself as being one of the best business schools in Canada. The most successful leaders possess entrepreneurial attitudes, and the university encourages these traits in its students. Programs such as the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Program and courses with Saint Mary's University Business Development Centre allow students to enhance their skills and combine university education with practical work experience, resulting in exceptional graduates.
