Record Group Goes Offshore, in Houston

Premier Russell MacLellan and a delegation of 75 Nova Scotia companies were on hand to kick off the opening of the largest offshore technology conference in the world in Houston, Texas, today.

Called the Offshore Technology Conference, it brings more than 1,800 international companies together to show-case the issues and opportunities involved in all aspects of offshore resource development. The three-day conference and exhibition runs from May 3-6.

"Nova Scotia is in the midst of experiencing an economic renewal and it is primarily due to the strength of our growing oil and natural gas sector," said Premier Russell MacLellan. "I am extremely pleased with the opportunities this conference will present for the province."

Nova Scotia is well represented with the largest contingent ever of companies as part of the Offshore/Onshore Technologies Association of Nova Scotia (OTANS). This association represents the province's growing industry-related service and supply sector.

"The number of companies represented at this year's show demonstrates the high-level of interest in the development of resources in Nova Scotia," said Tina Babcock, executive director of the association. "OTANS is very pleased with the number of companies represented as well as the support of the Nova Scotia government."

"This show is an excellent opportunity for Nova Scotia companies to network, investigate business opportunities and be part of the OTANS delegation," said Bill Johns, vice-president of operations for Cougar Helicopters and an association executive member. "It's not often that you are able to focus time and interact in an informal environment with both customers and suppliers," he said. "The conference enables businesses to meet face to face with industry representatives worldwide and educate them about the skills we can bring to projects both at home and around the world."

Throughout the three-day show, businesses and government representatives will participate in the trade show, attend technical sessions and meet with companies to promote Nova Scotia's oil and gas business expertise.
