Mike Bell Named Chef de Mission
Robbie Harrison, Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission, announced today that Sgt. Mike Bell has been appointed Team Nova Scotia's chef de mission for the 2001 Canada Summer Games to be held in London, Ontario.
"Nova Scotians are very fortunate having Mike as the chef de mission for the 2001 Canada Summer Games," said Mr. Harrison.
"As Team Nova Scotia's chef de mission at the 1999 Canada Winter Games, Mike clearly demonstrated his outstanding ability as a leader and organizer. He created a friendly, competitive, yet disciplined atmosphere in which athletes, coaches, officials and mission staff felt comfortable exploring their potential and, at the same time, enjoyed the full Canada Games experience."
The Games, intended as a way of building mutual understanding across Canada, provide a unique opportunity for young Canadians to assemble, compete and learn from each other. It is an opportunity for athletes to compete as part of a provincial team at the national level, and the chef de mission is responsible for preparing and managing the provincial team.
"I'm very proud to be selected to return as Team Nova Scotia's chef de mission," said Sgt. Bell. "It was a great honour to represent the province at the last games in Corner Brook, and I look forward to representing the province in London, as well."
Sgt. Bell works with the Halifax Regional Police, training section. He is married with three children and lives in Dartmouth.
