Call for Entries for Le Prix Grand Pre
EDUCATION/CULTURE--Call for Entries for Le Prix Grand Pre
- ---------------------------------------------------------------Acadian Nova Scotians are being invited to submit nominations for the Grand Pre Prize.
The provincial government established the Grand Pre Prize, worth $1,500, in 1987. It is a biennial award to recognize artistic achievement in the Acadian community in one of three categories: literature, theatre/dance/cinema/music, and visual arts/crafts.
This year, the prize will be awarded to a visual artist or craft producer based on a work produced since 1993. Works submitted must reflect Acadian cultural values while demonstrating excellence and originality in production.
Wayne Gaudet, Minister of Education and Culture and of Acadian Affairs, said the talent of Acadian artists is increasingly recognized here and around the world.
"Our poets, potters and painters, our musicians and all our Acadian artists, contribute so much. Their work reminds us as Acadians of who we are, where we've come from, and where we're going. I am proud of government's continuing support for Le Prix Grand Pre and our talented Acadian artists."
Past award winners are: Le Centre provincial de ressources pedagogiques; Eric Surette; Francois Gaudet; Denise Robichaud; Pere Anselme Chiasson; and Phil Comeau.
The award presentation takes place July 4 during Acadian Days celebrations, to be held at Grand Pre. Closing date for submissions is June 1.
