South Shore: Healthier Communities
Provincial sport and recreation organizations launch the Building Healthier Communities Together campaign in the South Shore communities of Barrington, Shelburne and Liverpool this week.
The Building Healthier Communities Together program, aimed at communities throughout the province, has a clear message: time, effort and money must be invested in sport and recreation facilities and programs to physically, socially and economically benefit people and their communities.
The program is made up of graphic and audio materials intended as tools to help communities and organizations with advertising, education and merchandising.
The kit is designed to promote healthy lifestyles and remind the public how important sport and recreation is to the quality of life. It assists volunteers, media, health care and sport and recreation professionals, educators, government representatives and business leaders in spreading that message.
This coming week, the program will be launched at:
- Barrington, Lions Area Hall, 6:30 p.m., April 19
- Shelburne, Jordan Falls 100F Hall, 7 p.m., April 20
- Liverpool, River Head Community Hall, 1 p.m., April 25
Building Healthier Communities Together is being launched over two months by the Sport and Recreation Commission, Sport Nova Scotia and Recreation Nova Scotia, with community organizations in Sydney, Truro, Yarmouth, Barrington, Shelburne, Liverpool, Wolfville/Kentville, Bridgetown, Trenton, Bridgewater and Halifax.
