Board Responds to Union Bid at Michelin
The Labour Relations Board received an application for certification on March 11 from the National Automobile, Aerospace, Transportation and General Workers' Union of Canada (CAW-Canada) seeking to represent certain hourly employees employed by Michelin North America (Canada Inc.) at its three plants in Nova Scotia.
The board has conducted a preliminary investigation to determine whether the union met the 40 per cent requirement as defined by Sect. 23 (1) of the Trade Union Act. The board was not satisfied the union had met the 40 per cent requirement and will not proceed with the representational vote at this time.
The board will provide an official list of the employees in the proposed bargaining unit to the union today. The union will have the opportunity to review this list of employees and make such representations to the board as may be warranted.
