Clean Bill of Health for Louisdale Water Supply
Tests conducted by the Department of the Environment give a clean bill of health to the Louisdale, Richmond County water supply.
Concerns were raised about the general quality of the water supply by the Eastern Regional Health Board. A general analysis and organics scan indicates the water is well within Canadian drinking water standards. Preliminary testing for methane in the supply indicates there is no methane. Results from specialized testing conducted by the department are expected later this week.
Environment Department staff also conducted preliminary inspections of an old municipal dump site, closed in 1970. "It is a relatively small dump site located down hill of the municipal wells, and there were no visible signs of leachate," said Clive Oldreive, Director of Regional Offices. "Due to the age of this site and its location, we don't think it has an impact on the well water supply."
This was confirmed by lab results taken from the water supply indicating that chloride, which is used as an indicator of potential contamination was very low.
