Regional Representative Appointed

Tony Martin, executive director of Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission, recently appointed Carol Davis-Jamieson as regional representative responsible for central region. Ms. Davis-Jamieson joined the commission on Jan. 26.

"Carol brings extensive expertise to the commission," said Mr. Martin. "Having worked at the senior management level of municipal government for over a dozen years, Carol has substantial experience in community consultation and development, project planning and management, and recreation trends research."

As one of the commission's six regional representatives, Ms. Davis-Jamieson will provide consultative services to central region, which covers Halifax Regional Municipality. These services include improving the effectiveness of sport, recreation and fitness organizations, and administering, developing and promoting the commission's policies, programs and services.

"Now that our regional representatives are in place, we can concentrate on delivering the service we need at the community level," said Robbie Harrison, Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission.

The commission's six regional offices are located throughout the province, and cover the following areas:

Central - Halifax regional municipality

Valley - Municipalities of Hants West and Clare, and
Counties of Annapolis, Kings, and Digby

South Shore -Counties of Yarmouth, Shelburne, Queens, and
Lunenburg

Fundy - Counties of Cumberland and Colchester and
Municipality of East Hants

Highland - Counties of Guysborough, Antigonish, and Pictou

Cape Breton -Cape Breton Island

The Sport and Recreation Commission provides policies, programs, and services to maintain, enhance and create quality sport, recreation, and fitness opportunities. These opportunities improve health and contribute to the social and economic well-being of all Nova Scotians.
