Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week Feb. 14-20
Teachers and all school staff will be recognized for their great work in and out of the classroom during Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, Feb. 14-20.
The Department of Education and Culture and the Nova Scotia Federation of Home and School Associations ask all Nova Scotians to applaud the efforts of the thousands of dedicated people who make our schools among the best in the world.
"The professional and personal contributions being made to our children and the education system by teachers and other school staff are extremely valuable," said Education and Culture Minister Wayne Gaudet. "For the individual roles they play in students' lives, they deserve our appreciation all year and particularly during this week."
Mr. Gaudet said the results of a recent survey indicate Nova Scotia teachers are held in extremely high regard. An Angus Reid poll conducted last fall indicated there is more respect for teachers in Atlantic Canada than in any other region.
Sandra Himmelman, president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Home and School Associations, said all school staff should be applauded for a job well done.
"Home and school members join with the department in recognizing the efforts of teachers, school secretaries, school nurses, teacher assistants, guidance counsellors, coaches, custodians and bus drivers -- all of whom make important contributions to the lives of our students."
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week was begun in 1988 by the Canadian Home and School and Parent-Teacher Federation. The nationally celebrated week is an opportunity for parents and others interested in education to demonstrate their support for Canada's schools, teachers and school staff.
