New Minas Interchange Proposed
Plans for a new limited-access, four-lane road from Highway 101 to Trunk 1 and from Trunk 1 to the Highbury Connector will be on display at an open house on Tuesday, Feb. 2, in New Minas.
After a detailed traffic study, the Department of Transportation and Public Works chose the proposed route to alleviate traffic concerns identified by residents, business operators and landowners.
"The open house gives us a chance to hear from local people," said project manager Dwayne Cross. "We want to find out how the proposed road will affect them and their community.
"The proposed alignment and designs are preliminary, and all comments will be considered before a route is selected. The open house is an important part of our planning process."
The proposed New Minas interchange/connector and north collector are being designed to accommodate growing traffic volumes well into the next century.
After an alignment is approved, a construction schedule for the interchange/connector road will be based on available funding and priority rating among all department initiatives.
The open house is being held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Civic Centre Hall, 9209 Commercial St., New Minas.
