Minister Tours Municipalities
Municipal officials in the Strait area will have the opportunity to discuss local issues face to face with the newly appointed Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs, Ray White.
Mr. White, who is no stranger to municipal government, will meet individually with nine municipal councils starting Friday, Jan. 22.
"It's an opportunity for me to hear firsthand about the challenges facing local government in this part of Nova Scotia," said the minister. "As a former mayor, and now minister, I have the advantage of seeing the issues from both perspectives."
On Friday, the minister will meet with council members from the Town of Antigonish and the municipalities of Antigonish and St. Mary's. Next week, he will meet with officials from the towns of Port Hawkesbury, Mulgrave and Canso and the municipalities of Inverness, Richmond and Guysborough.
For municipalities, the Department of Housing and Municipal Affairs is a window into the provincial government. The department brings forward municipal interests when meeting with other government departments.
