Open House to Review Road Plans

Members of the public are invited to an open house Thursday, Jan. 21, to review plans for a new interchange on Highway 102 and a Trunk 2 connector road.

Transportation and Public Works staff will be on hand to discuss the proposed plans that call for an interchange north of the existing Exit 8 interchange on Highway 102 and a connecting road meeting Trunk 2 in south Lantz.

"The open house gives us a chance to hear from residents, businesses and landowners," said project manager Janice Harland. "We want to find out how the proposed roads will affect them and their community.

"The proposed alignment and designs are preliminary. All the feedback will be considered before any route is selected."

The proposed route was identified in a study commissioned by the Municipality of East Hants as a viable solution for future traffic problems. Part of the study looked at future residential and commercial growth and identified improvements to accommodate traffic. The proposed roads would significantly reduce anticipated future traffic on Route 214 and the section of Trunk 2 in south Lantz.

Construction would likely occur in the next five to 10 years, depending on available funding and priority among other department initiatives.

The open house is being held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Elmsdale Royal Canadian Legion, 850 Trunk 2, Elmsdale.
