Award Celebrates Employers of Youth

One Nova Scotian employer will receive national recognition this spring for helping young Canadians get started in their careers.

Canada's Top Employers of Youth Awards, a new national award program, will present awards to winning employers from each province and territory during a conference in April.

"This program is about sharing the winning approaches of youth employment," said Education and Culture Minister Wayne Gaudet, "These awards encourage organizations to make a commitment to improving the labour market prospects for young people."

The awards celebrate and honour organizations that employ youth. The competition is open to all employers in Canada, excluding federal-provincial-territorial governments, who have hired youth into full-time positions and are dedicated to fostering employment, training and development.

The awards are an initiative of the Forum of Labour Market Ministers National Youth Employment Strategy, and was developed in collaboration with the Conference Board of Canada. The awards will be presented at the board's 10th anniversary conference, Reaching for Success: Business and Education Working Together, April 26-27 in Toronto.

Applications and more information can be found on the board's website at www.conferenceboard.ca/nbec. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 9. They can be sent to 255 Smyth Road, Ottawa Ont., K1H 8M7.
