Trans-Canada in Northern N.S. Closed

Severe winter weather has closed more than 100 kilometres of the Trans-Canada Highway 104 in northern Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

At 2:30 p.m. today, blowing and drifting snow forced officials to close Highway 104 in both directions between the New Brunswick border and Glenholme, N.S. Highway 2, the Trans-Canada in New Brunswick, was also closed at the Tantramar Marsh.

Highway 104 eastbound at Mount Thom was also closed because of the bad weather.

Emergency crews were dealing with several accidents and vehicles off the road.

Police are also investigating two fatal accidents during the severe weather. At 11 a.m., a vehicle left Highway 105 at Queensville, Inverness Co. At 12:25 p.m., a vehicle collided with a snowplow on Highway 101 near Berwick, Kings Co.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works reminds Nova Scotians to stay off the highways during winter storms.
