Film School Project Moves Ahead
A group that's been studying the feasibility of a film school for Nova Scotia is moving full steam ahead.
The group will establish a steering committee made up of industry and community leaders to develop a business and financing plan for the school.
"The film school feasibility project has now moved into a new phase of development and has taken on the form of a viable opportunity for Nova Scotia," said Anne-Marie Varner, CEO of the Nova Scotia Film Development Corp., which led the study. "This is the next step in having a truly complete film industry in Nova Scotia and making us a leader regionally, nationally and internationally."
Members of the steering committee, on which the film development corporation will continue to play an ex officio role, will be appointed in the coming weeks. The group also hopes to hire a project manager to help research and develop accreditation criteria and identify sources of financing.
"The board of the film development corporation is pleased to see the process move ahead," said Bonita Kirby, board chairperson. "We are all thrilled that the community has shown such support for this important piece of new infrastructure."
Following the appointment of the steering committee and the project manager, there will be a meeting to consult with key community stakeholders. The meeting will be held Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Halifax Club.
