Valley Office Opens
The Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission opened its Valley regional office in Kentville today. Having an office in the region will have an immediate and positive impact on the level of service offered by the commission.
Mike Trinacty, recently named as regional representative responsible for the Valley region, officially begins work today.
"Until today, the commission's Bridgewater office served the entire western region, including Lunenburg, Queens, Shelburne, Yarmouth, Digby and Annapolis," said Robbie Harrison, Minister responsible for Sport and Recreation. "Now, with access to an office in Kentville, organizations from Digby to Hants County will experience an improved quality of service and programs."
Regional representatives facilitate Sport and Recreation Commission funding programs, often through creative partnerships with community organizations. The funding programs include the Recreation Facility Development, Planning Assistance, Community Development, Little Red School House and Community Use of Schools. Regional staff also promote and facilitate commission initiatives at the community level. Current initiatives include Fair and Safe Play, gender equity, trail development, and increasing physical activity levels, especially for children and youth.
The addition of a Valley office reduces the Fundy region and re-establishes the South Shore region to a more manageable size, resulting in a better quality of service in all three areas.
The Sport and Recreation Commission's six regional offices are strategically located throughout the province, covering the following regions:
Valley - the municipalities of Hants West and Clare, and the counties of Annapolis, Kings and Digby South Shore - the counties of Yarmouth, Shelburne, Queens, and Lunenburg Central - Halifax Regional Municipality Fundy - the Municipality of Hants East, and the counties of Cumberland and Colchester Highland - the counties of Guysborough, Antigonish and Pictou Cape Breton - Cape Breton Island
The commission's Valley office is at the Economic Development and Tourism office, Suite 2, 28 Aberdeen Ave., Kentville, N.S., B4N 2N1. Contact numbers: telephone 902-679-4390 and fax 902-679-6094.
The Sport and Recreation Commission provides policies, programs, and services that maintain, enhance and create quality sport, recreation, and fitness opportunities which improve health and contribute to the social and economic well-being of all Nova Scotians.
