Smallmouth Bass Season Extended
The season for smallmouth bass angling has been extended on several lakes in Nova Scotia, Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Keith Colwell said today.
The season for smallmouth bass will now run to Dec. 31, 1998, on Panuke Lake in Hants County; Black Lake and Little River Lake, Kings County; and Ogden Lake, Parr Lake and Petes Lake, Yarmouth County.
"An extended season is an opportunity for anglers to enjoy a longer sport fishing season," said Mr. Colwell.
All angling will be hook and release.
This year is the second for an extended season. Traditionally, the season closed Oct. 31.
The extension was developed through consultation with angling groups that have attended the department's recreational fisheries advisory council meetings. The department acknowledges the co-operation of the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans in issuing the variation orders for these seasons.
