Tentative Agreement with Correctional Officers

The Department of Justice and Local 480 of the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union reached a tentative contract agreement today.

If accepted, the agreement will affect more than 400 correctional officers working in nine institutions across the province.

Justice Minister Jim Smith said, "We are extremely pleased that an agreement has been reached."

The bargaining and conciliation process began last April.

Details of the tentative agreement will be kept confidential until the union membership has had an opportunity to vote on the agreement.
