Mediator Appointed in Northwood Manor Labour Dispute
Labour Minister Russell MacKinnon has appointed retired judge J.A. MacLellan to mediate the labour dispute at Northwood Manor in Halifax.
"I am appointing judge MacLellan to assist with the speedy resolution of the current labour relations dispute," Mr. McKinnon said. "The appointment comes with the full support of the Department of Labour conciliation team."
Retired judge MacLellan, of Kentville, has an extensive background in labour relations and arbitrations and continues in arbitration work.
The labour minister stated that while he fully supports the collective agreement process, the delicate circumstances at Northwood have caused him to accelerate the process.
"I am taking this step to ensure that these matters are resolved quickly and to ensure that patient care, which is foremost in the minds of both parties, is not interrupted."
