Amendment Proposed to Optometry Act
Health Minister Jim Smith has introduced a bill to amend the Optometry Act.
The amendment would allow optometrists to report drivers whose vision is not acceptable to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Optometrists are in a better position than most other health professionals to detect people with poor eyesight, a factor that can play a role in motor vehicle accidents.
Similar legislation is already in place for physicians in the province.
