Cease and Desist Order--Point Tupper

The construction industry panel of the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board announced today it has taken action to end an illegal work stoppage that began Monday, Oct. 19, at Point Tupper.

The stoppage involves a number of employees of J. and T. Van Zutphen Construction Inc., Meridian Construction Inc., Cherubini Metal Works Ltd., Charlie McIntyre Contracting, and Island Steel Ltd.

A complaint was filed with the panel today, Oct. 20, asking for a cease and desist order against certain employees of the companies named above who are members of the Labourers' International Union of North America, Local 1115, International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 721, International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Ironworkers, Local 752, and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1588.

The panel has issued an interim order directing those employees who are participating in the illegal work stoppage at the Sable offshore fractionation plant, Statia Terminals, Point Tupper, to cease and desist and to return to work at their next regularly scheduled shift and perform their lawful duties as assigned by their employer.
