The sixth-annual Ag Cot Discovery Centre opens Oct. 16-18 at the Atlantic Winter Fair. As part of Agriculture Awareness Month, this interactive centre provides the public with a unique opportunity to learn about agriculture.
"The Ag Cot Discovery Centre is a key way for people to become more aware of the important role agriculture plays in our lives and in the economy of Nova Scotia," said Agriculture and Marketing Minister Ed Lorraine. "I encourage everyone to visit the centre this weekend to look at the displays, watch the demonstrations, ask questions and celebrate agriculture."
The centre has more than 20 special exhibits this year including industry organizations and producer groups, some showcasing farm animals.
October 16 is students day and about 2000 students will participate in a special arena program and visit the Ag Cot Discovery Centre. The special events include a puppet show, demonstrations on extracting honey, making apple cider and butter, and games that increase participant's knowledge and understanding of agriculture.
"We invite everyone to come and visit the Ag Cot Discovery Centre to learn about agriculture in a fun way and to join us as we celebrate October as agricultures awareness month," said Susan Horne, chair of the agriculture awareness committee.
The centre is organized by the Nova Scotia agriculture awareness committee, an industry-government partnership dedicated to increasing public awareness of the social and economic importance of agriculture.
