Minister Presents Award to 911 Call-Taker

Michelle Beaumont, a 911 call-taker from the Halifax Regional 911 answering point, received the first annual Minister's 911 Service Award today at Province House. Kennie MacAskill, Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Act, presented Ms. Beaumont with the award.

"First, I want to take this opportunity to thank all 911 call-takers in the seven 911 answering points, on behalf of the province, for their significant contribution to public safety," said Mr. MacAskill. "In the spirit of extending this appreciation, I'm honoured to present the first award to this year's recipient today. Michelle was nominated by fellow 911 call-takers and represents the high calibre of service delivered by 911 call-takers every day."

Mr. MacAskill also presented three 911 call-takers with honourable mention awards today. They are: David Cunningham from the Kentville 911 answering point, Darryl MacDonald from the Truro 911 answering point and Patrick Coolen from the Halifax Regional Municipality 911 answering point.

Award recipients were nominated by their peers as individuals who have earned their respect in delivering exceptional 911 service.
