Isle Madame Receives Aquaculture Award
The community of Isle Madame is being honoured with the first-ever Aquaculture Community Award at a Harvest Festival event later this month.
The Cape Breton community was chosen by the provincial Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture to receive the award for its initiatives in growing the aquaculture community.
"The work of this community in growing aquaculture is a great example of doing it right,"said Keith Colwell, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture. "They've set up their own aquaculture development fund and the biggest grower in Nova Scotia has been attracted to their area."
In announcing the award, Mr. Colwell said because it is a community honour, a celebration is also being planned. It will take place Saturday, Oct. 17 in Arichat at the Isle Madame New Horizons Club, Senior Citizen's Hall.
The festival, which is being organized with the assistance of Development Isle Madame, will include entertainment by the Country Rockin group and for the children, the clown Dalouknees.
As well, tours of an aquaculture site will be arranged.
Of course, any community event needs food and aquaculture products including steelhead and mussels will be available. Admission is free.
