Minister Tours Inverness County Roads

Transportation and Public Works Minister Clifford Huskilson is touring Inverness County roads today. The road tour is part of Mr. Huskilson's continuing review of provincial roads.

"Getting a first-hand look at our roads gives me a better handle on local issues and concerns," said Mr. Huskilson. "These tours help me to identify the needs and priorities for my department."

Over the past several months, he has visited Guysborough, Pictou, Cape Breton and Cumberland Counties, and the eastern shore region.

"My department has a comprehensive, technical process for determining road work priorities, but we also want input from local residents and businesses who use these roads every day," Mr. Huskilson said. "These tours give me that local perspective."

Transportation and Public Works has allocated $53-million for its 1998 repaving program. To date, about 70 tenders for projects throughout the province have been advertised or awarded.
