Tatamagouche Committee to be Named Soon

Members of an aquaculture advisory group in Tatamagouche will be named as soon as possible, now that the deadline for applications has passed, says Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Keith Colwell.

Mr. Colwell said more than 40 applications were received by last Friday's deadline from people interested in taking part in a regional aquaculture development advisory committee, known as a RADAC. About a dozen people will be chosen.

"I'd like to have all the stakeholder groups involved so there is equal representation," he said. "And I'd like the advisory board to report back this fall."

He said the time to announce the makeup of the RADAC is now since the project applicants, the Dockendorfs, have completed two information sessions with the public. The minister had insisted those meetings about their proposed mussel farm be held after visiting the proposed site last month.

Once the committee is chosen, the members will be contacted and a meeting date set. The province will provide a facilitator for the first meeting to assist in organization and to answer questions.
