Minister Tours Guysborough County

Transportation and Public Works Minister Clifford Huskilson is in Guysborough County today in his continuing tour of roads in Nova Scotia.

"These road tours help me to identify the needs and priorities of communities around the province," said Mr. Huskilson. "Having firsthand knowledge helps me and my department staff to address problems as they arise, and anticipate where future work will need to be done."

Over the past several months, Mr. Huskilson has visited Pictou, Cape Breton and Cumberland counties, and the Eastern Shore region.

"The Department of Transportation and Public Works has a comprehensive technical process for determining road work priorities, but we also want input from local residents and businesses who use these roads every day," Mr. Huskilson said. "I'm hoping to open the lines of communication here for the benefit of everyone."

The Guysborough visit will also include a stop at the Sable offshore gas plant construction site at Goldboro. The minister will discuss the transportation needs of the gas plant with project officials.

Transportation and Public Works has allocated some $53 million for its 1998 repaving program. To date, about 60 tenders for projects throughout the province have been advertised or awarded.
