Upgrades for Boularderie Consolidated School
Students at Boularderie Consolidated School in Bras d'Or, Cape Breton, will soon have a school that supports their physical education and arts programs, thanks to $1.7 million in provincial funding announced today by Education and Culture Minister Robbie Harrison.
The funding will be used to build a new gymnasium, change rooms, library and music room. The existing school will be upgraded to meet current codes and standards.
"We're committed to providing schools that support a variety of programs offered to our children," said Mr. Harrison. "The new gym and music room will allow the students at Boularderie Consolidated School to take part in sporting activities as well as develop their musical talents."
Liz MacPhee, chair of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board, said the funding will be used to make much-needed improvements to the school. "In partnership with the province, we're now able to make Boularderie, our great school, even better. With the funding and the new specialized areas, our school is better able to meet the needs of all our students."
The $1.7 million in funding is part of the province's school construction and renovation plan announced in December 1997.
Children from grades primary to six attend Boularderie Consolidated School.
