Frederick Street Test Results Indicate No Health Concern

Overall test results of hair and blood samples taken from residents of Frederick Street, Sydney, indicate that individuals in the community are not currently, nor have they recently been, exposed to lead or arsenic at levels that would be detrimental to their health. Residents received the test results today.

"I am pleased that the test results have concluded that the residents face no immediate health risk from lead and arsenic in the area," said Dr. Jeff Scott, provincial medical officer of health.

Of the 40 residents tested, 24 agreed to have their blood levels taken and 26 agreed to have their hair arsenic levels taken. Individual test results are confidential.

NOTE TO EDITORS: Some additional information on the overall results will be made available at a media briefing Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 8:30 p.m. in Room Celtic B, Cambridge Suites, Sydney. Cantox Environmental Inc. will present the results of its health-risk assessment.
