Irish Day at Mount Uniacke
It's not blarney, just lots of fun. Irish music, dance, songs and stories when Uniacke Estate Museum Park, Mount Uniacke celebrates Irish Day, Sunday, Aug. 9, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Back in the early 1800s, the estate was the home of Richard John Uniacke and his large family. They spent their summers entertaining at this grand estate. Celebrate Uniacke's Irish roots at Uniacke Estate Museum Park this weekend. Discover Irish history in Nova Scotia and enjoy Irish-flavoured fun.
Admission is free. Entertainment is sponsored in part by the Charitable Irish Society. Events take place under the tent and at Uniacke House.
Schedule:
11:30 a.m. - Irish Roots: Story of the Charitable Irish Society
with Bob Harvey
12:00 p.m. - Traditional music by An cumman Ceili Band with John
Goodman, Uilleann Pipes
1:00 p.m. - Irish Dance performed by the Metro Irish Dancers,
directed by Beth Greene
1:30 p.m. - Demonstration of basic Irish Dance steps for
everyone to try.
2:00 p.m. - Brian Cuthbertson, writer and Uniacke family
descendant talks about the Uniackes and family
gatherings at the estate. This will take place in
the Uniacke House.
2:00 p.m. - Matthew D. McGuire, Colin Rankin and Jeff MacDonald
perform Irish songs, play traditional fiddle tunes
and tell you about the roots of Irish music. This
takes place in the tent.
3:00 p.m. - Join the interpreters for Fun and Games of the
1800s. The way children might have played at Uniacke
Estate in the past.
3:30 p.m. - A musical grand finale with musicians and dancers
celebrating Irish tradition.
Everyone is invited to bring a picnic lunch and their own lawn chairs. The Post Road Tea Room will be open.
