A New Computer Room for Sydney Academy
Students at Sydney Academy High School in Sydney will meet the challenges of the future head on with the creation of a new computer room. Education and Culture Minister Robbie Harrison announced $150,000 in funding today to support the project.
"The students at Sydney Academy will now have access to a technology-rich education," said Mr. Harrison. "In the new computer room, the students will be able to develop the skills they will need throughout their education and later, in the workplace."
The majority of students attending Sydney Academy previously attended Sherwood Park Junior High School. Sherwood Park is one of Nova Scotia's technology advanced junior high schools. Now, with the addition of the new computer room at Sydney Academy, students will continue to build on the skills they developed at Sherwood Park.
The chair of the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board, Liz MacPhee is pleased the renovations to the computer room will soon be under way. "This is something we've wanted for the students of Sydney Academy for a long time," said Mrs. MacPhee. "With the addition of the computer room our students will have hands on access to much needed technology."
The $150,000 in funding is part of the school capital construction and renovation program the Nova Scotia government announced in December 1997.
