Warmer Schools at Gaspereau, Hants West

Students attending Gaspereau Elementary School and Hants West Rural High School will be more comfortable this winter, thanks to $25,000 and $30,000 in funding to improve the schools' heating systems.

"Our government is committed to providing healthy, safe environments for Nova Scotian children," Education and Culture Minister Robbie Harrison said in announcing the funding today. "These improvements will ensure the children at Gaspereau Elementary and Hants West Rural High will have warm, comfortable schools in which to learn."

The boilers in both schools will be replaced, marking Phase 1 of a renovation project. Specific project details will be determined in consultation with the school board and community.

Heather MacLean, chair of the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board, welcomed the funding. "We're pleased this funding is available to improve our schools' heating systems. We look forward to the ongoing renovations --making two great schools even better."

Projects for both Gaspereau Elementary School and Hants West Rural High School are being funded through the province's school construction and renovation plan announced in December 1997.
