Toll-Free Hay Listing Re-established

The Nova Scotia Hay Listing Service has been re-established to aid livestock farmers currently experiencing feed shortages as a result of the dry weather in the Annapolis Valley area.

Although most of the province has had excellent forage crops this year, the counties of Kings, Annapolis and Digby are once again facing a forage shortfall.

"The feed line was successful last summer and we wanted to be able to provide the same service to those producers in need this year," said Agriculture and Marketing Minister Ed Lorraine.

A toll-free line has been established to ensure the service is accessible from anywhere in the province. The number is 1-888-423-1222.

By calling the line producers can list livestock feed for sale, make inquiries as to what is listed for sale, or place their name on a list of those wanting to buy feed.

The information is regularly posted on the Department of Agriculture and Marketing homepage at http://agri.gov.ns.ca/pt/agron/hay/index.htm. From this page the current lists of Hay for Sale or Hay Wanted to Buy can be viewed.

The listing service and toll-free line is operated from the department's Production Technology Branch. The service is open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding noon to 1 p.m.).
