Exhibition Season Opens
Agriculture and Marketing Minister Ed Lorraine opened the 1998 Nova Scotia exhibition season July 27 with an evening visit to the South Shore Exhibition in Bridgewater.
"Exhibitions have been a part of the Nova Scotia way of life for more than 230 years," said Mr. Lorraine. "They strengthen our sense of community, are an economic boost for various regions of the province, and provide an opportunity for Nova Scotians to learn about, and better understand, agriculture and the food products we produce here."
In 1997, more than 320,000 people attended exhibitions in the province, resulting in gross revenues of about $1.5 million.
"I am going to attend as many exhibitions as I can this year and I encourage Nova Scotians to do the same," said Mr. Lorraine. "We can all benefit from increasing our awareness of agriculture by visiting an exhibition, becoming ambassadors for the industry and buying local products."
