N.S. All Women Lifeguard Competition

Sport and Recreation Commission

The first ever All-Women Lifeguard Competition will be held on July 21, 1998 at Risser's Beach Provincial Park, Petite Riviere, Lunenburg County.

The competition, organized by Nancy Witty, an area supervisor with the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service, is designed to help promote and encourage the participation of women in the sport of lifesaving. Some of the most competitive female guards from all over Atlantic Canada will participate in this event.

A total of eight categories, including the gruelling "Ironwoman" and the exciting "Beach Flags", will be contested with awards presented to the top three finishers in each event. An overall trophy will be awarded to the team and individual acquiring the most points throughout the competition.

Events get under way at 1:00 p.m., with awards presentations taking place on the beach following the last event of the day.

The All Women Lifeguard Competition is a joint effort of the Canadian Red Cross Society, Nova Scotia Region, the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission and the Lifesaving Society.
