West Kings Students to Return to Better School

Students and staff at West Kings District High School in Auburn, Kings County can expect a warmer school when they return to class in September after renovations to improve the heating system are completed over the summer.

"The students, staff and community have waited a long time for these improvements and this is concrete evidence that we're moving ahead," said Education and Culture Minister Robbie Harrison. "Our children and their education are among this government's top priorities and these renovations will make this already great school even better."

The work is the first phase of a multi-million dollar renovation project to take place over the next three years. A new boiler will replace an aging boiler which no longer works, and a new electrical entrance will be installed in the first phase. The contract for the renovations will be awarded through a tender process, with the cost estimated at $140,000.

This project is being funded through the $90 million renovation plan announced in December 1997. The Department of Education and Culture is working with school boards across the province on projects to be scheduled over the next three years.

West King's District High School serves approximately 1,000 students in grades seven to 12.
