Trained camp counsellors lead 4-H members in a variety of activities, including canoeing, arts and crafts, drama, nature studies, recreation and sessions on 4-H. .

Each week, for five weeks, 48 campers arrive from the different regions in the province. Bus transportation to the camp is provided by the Nova Scotia 4-H Council.

"Provincial 4-H members are fortunate to be able to attend such a camp," said Agriculture and Marketing Minister Ed Lorraine. "Camp Rankin provides young Nova Scotians with an educational program and a memorable experience while providing an opportunity for them to meet 4-H members from across the province. And as always, they learn to do, by doing."

Originating as a Centennial project of the Richmond County 4-H Leader's Council, Camp Rankin is situated on 60 acres of land bordering the Bras d'Or Lakes at Cape George, near St. Peters.

Since its completion by volunteers 26 years ago, it has provided unforgettable memories and experiences to thousands of Nova Scotia 4-H members and visitors. Although the original intention was to accommodate the 4-H clubs of Richmond County and surrounding area, it now hosts 4-H members from across the province.
